1968 Hemi Cuda HISTORY: This is a Plymouth factory hemi race car, VIN # B029M8B390659. The B029 designation was a special factory order code designating a factory race prepared Barracuda with a 426 cubic inch hemi engine, fiberglass or acid dipped fenders, no back seat, plexiglass windows, lightweight bumpers, van bucket seats in the front, no roll up mechanism for the windows, and various other modifications for a drag racing car. These are very famous cars that can be found in any book that chronicles the musclecars of the 1960s. Depending on the publication, there were around 50 of these cars produced and they came with a warning not to drive them on the street - they were intended for racing purposes only and they were bought at the time for that purpose. The car pictured here originally went to Billy Stepp, who
drove the car as “Billy the Kid” in 1968 and 1969.
According to the previous owner, this car was taken over by the Sox and
Martin Racing team in the early 1970s, and it was campaigned by Sox and
Martin in the 70s and 80s. The car obviously still maintains the Sox
and Martin racing colors and it is in “factory raced”
condition. Also, the hood is signed by Ronnie Sox and their is a
notarized affidavit signed by Ronnie Sox attesting to the fact that he
raced this particular car. |
